about
When I think of Smile, I think of the vibe portrayed when Jim, Kevin, Oz and Finch are all sitting around the table at Dog Years at the end of American Pie. It’s a reflection of a particular summer. 2011 was the year that my core of close friends started to part ways due to work, travel, having families etc. And yet despite the sad nature of the story, we made some incredible memories one last time.
I think most of us can relate to at least one summer like that before transitioning into the adulting phase of life. It’s not the end but things will never be the same again.
lyrics
We’re flying high on highway 101
We’ve got the rooftop down
You’re feeling the wind and the sun
We’re on the road to San Francisco today
We’ll make the most of our time by The Bay.
Where the skies end, I don’t pretend to be the same
I will rise up as I wise up
Better days, they are ahead.
Riding west by the A69
Let’s remember this one for all of time
I have heard the news about the Glasgow Blues
The Upside of my day
The Fringe was pumping, the party jumping by The Hay
So, I smile before you now
Where the skies end, I don’t pretend to be the same
I will rise up as I wise up
Better days, they are ahead.
Canals of Amsterdam, chilling by those red-light streets
(I’ve) been drinking again but I’m making new friends as I go
From London to Leeds and the wet York heat
A little smile and a frown, we’re the talk of the town
As we Superman the streets.
Where the skies end, I don’t pretend to be the same
I will rise up as I wise up
Better days, they are ahead.
Where the skies end, I don’t pretend to be the same
I will rise up as I wise up
Better days, they are ahead.
